In this extended practice of slowing down, together we will intentionally plug into the wisdom of deep consciousness and recharge the mind-body connection.

Restorative yoga, often referred to as Sleepy Time Yoga, is the perfect respite for the busiest among us. Whether you are new to yoga or are an experienced practitioner, restorative yoga will meet the needs of most everyone! This slow and passive style of yoga allows all participants to find support with blankets, bolsters and other props in yoga poses, either seated or lying down, with the goal of finding the greatest amount of comfort possible. This allows the body to indulge in deep relaxation to soothe the nervous system, therefore allowing the mind to receive a much needed rest. The benefits of restorative yoga are:

Stress reduction/lowers cortisol levels - primary stress hormone

Calms the mind and may reduce anxiety

Relieves muscle tension, including back pain

Reduces general fatigue, increasing serotonin production

Helps with insomnia

Activation of parasympathetic nervous system, or Rest & Digest response

May increase immune function

Lower blood pressure

Increases body-mind-spirit connection through mindfulness meditation

Gentle flush of internal organs through deeper breath work

While this style of yoga is available to almost everyone a few precautions are:

Eye conditions, such as glaucoma - needs for caution during inversions

Serious recent or chronic injuries or inflammation - needs for moving slowly and mindfully

Pregnancy - needs for slight modifications in some positions to allow for safety of both mother and baby

Spondylolisthesis/Spondyloysis - needs for caution in many poses; back bending is contraindicated
